hiddenmuse: (Gay Agenda)
When I was in college, I had a gay boyfriend. Not a gay boyfriend in the "Oh My God, Oprah - my boyfriend likes dick!" sort of way - nope, this was an openly gay man. How did he become my boyfriend? Well, we were both single - so we decided to be each other's boyfriend/girlfriend, until one or both of us found somebody.

We'd met in Human Sexuality class - the two misfits. Together, we had our "Dumb Blonde" and "Sex Goddess" - his were Anna Nicole Smith and Annie Sprinkle. Mine were Pamela Anderson and Susie Bright. He'd shared his copies of On Our Backs; The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex and his music - Pansy Division, and Cyborgasm - a collection of erotic stories - with me.

After classes, we'd get together and ride around St. Louis - going to the movies (seeing Showgirls with him and one of his friends was a campy good time); going to gay bars and running around some of the neighborhoods.

I always liked gay men. It might have been the connection between gay men and fat girls, but whatever it was, I've always liked hanging around them. We'd have a nice little Mutual Admiration Society going on - and I think some of them liked me because I was a "safe" fag hag/flame dame. Being queer meant that I wouldn't try to come onto them or anything. Sure, they actually liked women - especially the breasts (really!) - in a platonic sense only. And a few I've met were quite "anti-woman", referring to them in perjorative terms - even while I was around. Then again, they were fairly young, and newly out...

Anyways, I love my gay boys - and they seem to like me, too. :-) It's a very good thing.

This one's for [livejournal.com profile] neurotic_one - as well as any other American Idol fans!

By way of Defamer

Maxim Magazine's Today's Girl

Enjoy!

P.S. to those that will understand it: I finally saw "Bedussey". That was the craziest thing I've seen in a long time, and now a lot of the icons/comments make more sense.

I leave you all with this dose of Cute Overload bunnitude from March!

Emo Bunny!

It's a bunny in eyeliner - who could resist the cuteness? If you want to read the comments, look for the March 11 entry - for some reason, I couldn't link to it directly.

Dear LiveJournal communities on my friends list and some of their members:

Please get your heads out of your asses.

For the love of all that is remotely sacred, I think that [livejournal.com profile] epileptics can handle a question about sex, without someone whining about how their 16-year-old son reads this community, and the question is "inappropriate". Your son is 16, I'm sure he's heard about sex, climaxes and libido, in addition to seizures. Oh my god - your kid's gonna be scarred for life!!

As for you [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants, guess what, not all of us ranters/readers/writers are involved in the Anime/Yaoi genre. Some of us write stories involving *real people* - fictional and real-life characters. So, 90%+ of your rants mean nothing to me, so I don't respond. But, when the small percentage of us that write Everything Else post our rants/wanks - leave us to our devices and stop trying to rip us new orifices. Fuckers.

And [livejournal.com profile] misfitmormon, well, I won't even go there. Half the people on there are full of drama with a capital D-R-A-M-A. Of the remaining half, three quarters are pretty neutral, and one quarter are decent people that are relatively drama-free, no shit-stirring from them. I sometimes wonder if they didn't read the sign that said "MISFIT Mormon" - emphasis on the "Misfit" aspect. There are Mormons that admit to drinking tea/coffee/the occasional alcoholic beverage; a few that are admittedly Wiccan or Pagan; some, like me, that don't go to church anymore - but have family that do; and a lot of us have politics that are contrary to the church's decidedly right-wing stance.

Anyone else feeling the wrath of Assholes Gone Wild in their communities/friends lists?

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. - Dead at 84

I enjoyed Vonnegut's writing - Welcome To The Monkeyhouse was one of my favorites - especially for "Harrison Bergeron", a story of political correctness and parity gone horribly wrong.

And I remember that several years ago, he'd given a commencement speech, and delivered these words: "If you want to frighten your parents, and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, go into the arts."

Rest in Peace, Mr. Vonnegut. You will be missed.

My sister is an officially licensed driver. If you're in St. Louis, do your best to stay off the sidewalks in North St. Louis County. Now, I really feel old. Then again, she is almost 18 years younger than me. (When she was born, I was a senior in high school - classmates were having babies, and I was anticipating the arrival of my half-sister.) And she is *gorgeous*, if I say so myself.

If you asked her a few years ago, what she thought of me, she'd probably say that I was cool because I live in San Francisco, and I took her to her first concert (Barenaked Ladies). If you ask her now, she'd say that I'm cool because I live in San Francisco, took her to her first concert, gave her an iPod for Christmas (earned Coolest Sister EverTM points there), and sent her a Fall Out Boy t-shirt that she wishes was a bit smaller, so she could wear it as more than a nightshirt. Yes, I get to be the cool sister / future cool-eccentric aunt.

And now for something completely different (and unusual), I present Dr. Calvert Jang of Jang & Associates. The smile - scary and hypnotic at the same time. That's all I can say, really.

Last night, I took an Ambien for my recent sleeplessness, and no, I didn't end up sleep-driving Colbert Report: Threatdown - Sleep Driving. Nope, instead I had a "sleep hangover", feeling drowsy for part of the morning. Although, I did sleep quite well - and didn't have trouble waking up.

A couple of updates from recent entries:

1) The Hello Kitty Hissfits t-shirt wasn't available in the store, so I ordered it online. Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week! :-) In light of that disappointment, I did get another Hello Kitty t-shirt - Apple of Your Eye - it's very cute, and fun! (But then, when isn't Hello Kitty fun?)

2) The ADD cooking - with the marinated for over 36 hours chicken? Yeah, that was quite crappy. The chicken appeared to be cooked in the lime juice, almost ceviche-style - and when it was actually prepared, some of the bigger pieces were still raw in the middle. We may try the recipe again - but this time, we'll be paying more attention to the marination time.

Now, for some more recent stuff. Yesterday was my sister's 16th birthday! I called her to wish her a happy birthday, and she told me that she'd gotten a job (at a tanning salon, cleaning the beds and doing laundry) - she's going to be saving the money from her job ... to come out and see me!! {I'd been petitioning my mom for years to let her come and visit ... only to be denied and/or have the request put off to the side. So, I'm thrilled, and jumping up and down inside, like a little kid.}

Today is Easter, and I'll be celebrating by making deviled eggs (yum) and going to the movies - Blades of Glory and/or Meet The Robinsons. I know, kind of unconventional, but quite fun!

That's all that's going for now ... I'll see how the rest of the day works out.
hiddenmuse: (hello ninja)
For anyone that's known me for at least 5 minutes, my love of Hello Kitty is probably noticeable. Hell, I even met her a couple of years ago!

Anyways ... I found another excellent Hello Kitty shirt, via Torrid: Hissfits. I just wonder, does she perform "Die Die My Darling?"

Okay - so as to avoid any spoilers for American Idol (for the one or two people that didn't watch it), I will just say that Kellie's boyfriend, Blake Lewis, is still safe. As is her "barely legal" crush, Jordin Sparks.

And I can't tease her too much about having a boyfriend - or a barely legal crush. She already gives me trouble over my crush on Patrick Stump ... and I'm in good company with several others that are counting down to Daniel Radcliffe's 18th birthday. :-D

Speaking of birthdays, a belated Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] gardengnomegeek! (Sorry it's late!) And Happy Birthday to Ms. Dia [livejournal.com profile] therealsugshady!

Finally, it has been decided that there needs to be a collection of recipes for those of us that tend to be a bit on the ADD-side. This whole "marinate for two hours" deal is ridiculous. We have chicken in the refrigerator that has been marinating for almost *two days*, because of the whole skittish "ooooh shiny-itis" problem.

So considering this, there need to be recipes that read like this:

"Chop one red pepper ... oooh! puppy!"

"Heat oven to 350 degrees ... look at the little baby kitties!"

"Combine the first three ingredients ... oh my god, PONY!!"

That's not too much to demand ask, is it?

As much as I hate anything having to do with dentistry, I had to suck it up and go to the endodontist today.

Luckily, there was no major work required - just re-shaping a crown that was fucking up my bite.

Also, it helps that the office had an alt-rock station on, so I heard Soundgarden, Foo Fighters and some Linkin Park. Much better than my dentist's office, where getting my gums ripped apart was accompanied by James Blunt's whiny "You're Beautiful".

And did I mention that my endodontist looks like an ink-free Andy Hurley? Yeah ... if he wasn't married, and I wasn't partnered, I'd risk getting into some impropriety with him. Okay, maybe not ... it would be an interesting thought, though.
hiddenmuse: (sunny)
I'm only doing this because I don't want to add people to a filter, only to find out that they're not interested. Or possibly freaked out by what they read.

So, without further ado...

[Poll #957455]

Thanks for playing along! *smooch*

Okay, I somehow managed to survive the internist and neurologist. My Effexor was increased, like I'd thought it would be. I was also given some Ativan for the insomnia (the neurologist prescribed Ambien CR ... yay for possible sleep-driving!). The neurologist increased the dosing on one of my seizure meds. No big deal - much easier to take one pill, instead of two different doses of the same pill.

The dentist, on the other hand, was not so spectacular. It was the first time *ever* that I had to have topical numbing for a cleaning, because of a few highly sensitive teeth. Also, I found out that the wonky tooth that has been bothering me ... needs to have the crown replaced. And did I mention that my two front teeth also need to be capped? Oh lucky day.

I came home, feeling like "dear God, kill me now. Please." Still kind of feel that way.

Oh well. At least I'm home, and don't have to worry about any of the aforementioned crap for a while.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] twofortuesdays,

When I see this Attack of Robert Goulet ad, I think of you and smile. :-)

Cheers,

Carly

Even the bear-phobic Stephen Colbert can't resist this little guy - Who's a godwess widdle killing machine?.

And of course, the classic Cat Herding ad.

This one is rated NC-17 for a couple of C-Bombs.

You, fellow transit riders, suck. Majorly. )

Now, I'm going to take some Advil Extra Strength (G*d bless CanadaPharmacy.com. Total life-saver) and run to the grocery store before making dinner.

Hopefully you've all had a better day than me! :-)

When Kellie goes out of town for business, the cats seem to enjoy raising hell.

Cleo will run around eating paper; knocking things down; yelling at me; waking me up at 4 a.m., demanding to be fed, etc. Teak is reasonably better-behaved. He just sits around and sulks - in other words, his usual way of being.

Although, I have found a (temporary) solution to the obnoxiousness. Catnip. Lots of catnip. Sprinkle it on their cat scratcher, let them get all stoned on KittyCrackTM and play themselves into a stupor, before finally settling in for a couple of hours.

Yes, I know, I'm enabling the little jackasses ... but it works.

This puppy is the cutest thing *evar* ... baby Hemmy, anyone?

Let the squee-ing begin! :-)

Puppy!!

More puppy goodness!!

Okay, a few weeks back, I'd read in article in People Magazine, about "Ex-Gay Therapy", especially relating to Ted Haggard's claiming that he's "100% Heterosexual" after 3 weeks of treatment.

Someone that claimed to have been "cured" said that his turn-around point was when he'd had a dream of being married to a woman and having a family. Then, he apparently realized that he wanted to be straight. WTF?!?!?!? Dude, from time to time, I have sex dreams about men ... but it doesn't mean that I'm going to run off and fuck a guy, or want to get married and have kids. It's a dream. Not reality. *shrugs* I don't get it.

Ah well ... perhaps it's just not for me to understand.

Cleo (the Red Menace) is being a total asshole since Kellie is out of town. I keep threatening to sell him on eBay, put him on Craigslist, whore him out ... even trade him in for a new model at the animal shelter. Still looks at me like, "fuck off, bitch". Whatever. At least Teak (the Angry Black Man) is reasonably well-behaved. He just sits around, plays with cat toys - or Cleo, and occasionally yells at me for attention. None of Cleo's "I'll knock everything down, walk on the computer keyboard and turn on iTunes, and eat anything made of paper" shenanigans.

Okay ... bitching aside, things are going well. Today, I'm going to get my hair colored ... a project that will take 2-3 hours easily. My hope is that it'll look like this ... only more of a deep brown, than the black that Gina has. Of course, my hair will be shorter than hers ... but that's just to give an idea of what I want. :)

And yes, I will get before and after photos.

That's all for now! For my fellow geeks - Happy Pi Day! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fragbert for pointing that out to me. :)
