Mental Rollercoaster
Jan. 24th, 2003 11:36 pmI loathe PMS. Some months, I get by relatively scot-free - very little emotional upheaval or physical angst. Other months, I'm not so lucky. This would be one of those months.
I got the idea to try a new haircoloring kit from L'oreal. I'd be able to acheive the look I want ... haircolor with highlights on top. Then, I got the kit home & discovered that it was 50% worthwhile. Apparently to do the highlights, you have to be either: (a) a licensed beautician, (b) terribly coordinated, or (c) have a 2nd person around to help.
Seeing as I'm in possession of none of the above, I was only able to get the overall color done. I tried (twice) to get the highlights in, but found that unless I have one of those dorky plastic bonnets you pull your hair through, it's just not happening. Thankfully, I was able to rinse out the highlighter goop before it had time to develop ... otherwise, I'd be doling out another $10 - $12 for another box of haircolor to fix my fuck-up.
What have I learned in the meantime? That I'd rather save up my money & spend $50 - $60 to have a professional highlight my hair. And be secure in knowing that the professional is better at this than I am.
But ... the overall color looks nice, thank goodness. So maybe it was 50% effective. It just busts my butt that I'd spent $20 for something that ended up being nothing more than a box of haircolor.
I should just go to bed and sleep off the grumpiness. And for the record, I'm feeling grumpier than I'd let on around here...
