Just Can't Get Enough...
Jan. 21st, 2003 11:07 pmWell, I finally got around to writing a story - just like I kept saying I was going to do! Of course, my story-writing time coincided with the premier of American Idol, so I got a couple of paragraphs hashed out, then got sucked into the tragicomic freak show that is American Idol.
My intention was to continue writing when the commercials came on - but instead, I sat through the commercials and didn't write. It was like one side of my brain was telling me: "Keep writing!", while the other side of my brain tried to overrule with: "No! Must. Watch. American. Idol!" So my brains turned to sludge and I had moments where I cringed and wanted to plug my ears, running around the living room "lalala-ing" in a futile attempt to drown out the tone deaf caterwaulers.
As for that near-psycho Enrique Iglesias wannabe ... oy. That was just wrong. Just because you look like someone, doesn't mean that you inherit their talent. Or, in his case, a brain. (What part of "NO" did he NOT understand?)
But Coffey (from Austin, TX) - he was cool. And his baby girl, Savannah ... such a little doll! :)
Yet, I'm going to be plopped in front of the TV watching again tomorrow night. Can't get enough of the show, because I'm pathetic and need a hobby besides work.
Geekout Moment: One of the commercials was for a new Fox show - Oliver Beene - had a bit of the Me First And The Gimme Gimmes version of "Wild World". That was cool.

These first episodes, and the ones in the middle where they start to wittle down the people they take to Hollywood are the best! I love watching them crush people's dreams.
