I'll Stick Around
Jan. 15th, 2003 04:53 pmWool socks are very nice. Even if they seem to clash with my outfit. I'd rather be a little warmer and a near fashion don't instead of cold and ready for my close-up. Now, if only I could do something for my hands. :(
In other news, it seems that with our data entry gal's resignation, there was more than meets the eye. As in an almost 2 inch (4 cm) high stack of policy forms that were from LAST MONTH. For those of us sending out 2d and 3d requests to companies to process changes, this is quite aggravating. Sherry said that she got through about 2/3 of it, and that she felt ill the entire time, thinking of how this really threw a lot of people off-balance.
I'm getting into the swing of things with billing, the major stack on my desk is down to just a few items I don't comprehend, and the matter of working overtime is largely there as a back-up. Meaning that if I can do the billing during the course of my work day, great. If not, I have the option to stay later and get overtime pay for doing so. Yes, I know I could abuse this ... but my conscience would weigh on me too heavily if I did that. So I just have the overtime option on an "as-needed" basis.
Last night, I got IMed by an ex-girlfriend. Not really something I was expecting, but not a horrendous experience, either. She was amicable - wanting to see how I was doing, wanted to talk about work. When she started to talk about changing jobs, mixed with a smattering of complaining, I kept my resolve and doled out my general work advice: Don't quit your current job until you get something else lined up. That it'll get better, and that perhaps a new job is just what she needs.
She didn't say much about her boyfriend, although his name did come up in passing. I didn't say much about Kellie - no need to discuss the current girlfriend with an ex-girlfriend. I just found it almost amusing that it's true, what they say about lesbian relationships - that you usually end up staying friends with your exes. Granted, there may be several weeks or months that you don't talk to each other, but eventually it happens.
Besides the ex-girlfriend, I did have a couple of other cool things happen: I went to World Market in pursuit of Pocky, only to come up empty-handed. Instead, I went nuts over the exotic mints and lozenges - I have a box of sugar-free cassis flavored pastilles and a package of violet-flavored mints. Both are quite good - which was especially a surprise with the violet mints. (If you're wondering just what on Earth "cassis" is, Cassis (or Cassia) is a black currant.)
Also, through another friend's lj, I've joined a Comfort Box circle. What this means is that someone is starting a box with a small assortment of goodies & trinkets, a journal to be written in by each recipient of the box, and of course, addresses of the participants. When someone gets the box, they can take out a few of the goodies - or all of them - and replace them with their own set of treats, the same amount as they'd removed. The journal will have photo(s) and a few thoughts of each person. I'm looking forward to it, and think it'll be a lot of fun. And right now, I'm thinking of what I'd like to get to put into the box!
If this goes well, I'd like to start a small group for a Comfort Box of our own to be sent around. If you're interested, or have ideas for it, let me know and I'll see what we can do! :)
