And now, a break from the drama
Nov. 13th, 2007 07:29 amI'm at an impasse with the whole family thing - right now, it may be the better thing to do, considering that it seems to be messing with my physical health. :-/
Anyways, yesterday, I got to be Ms. Fix-It! Our shower head has been leaking for a while, and recently, it has started to spray from the attachment point (where the shower head screws into the pipe). To keep myself distracted, I looked on a few websites for how-to's on repairing it, went to the hardware store after work and bought the necessary tools.
Later in the evening, I went into the shower, took off the head and was ready to soak it in some CLR (Calcium, Lime and Rust remover) overnight, and replace it with a new shower head in the meantime. The soaking wasn't necessary - there was a crack in the attachment point, and the whole head was just shot to shit. So, rather than teflon taping, soaking and re-attaching, I just threw out the old head, screwed on the new one and put the tools away.
This morning, the shower was working beautifully. No leaks at all. :-)
Since I'm such a geek, I was totally proud of myself for that one!

Date: 2007-11-13 06:39 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm pretty good at the plumbing repairs (I've replaced toilet seats and handles, replaced broken tiles in the shower ... and now, replaced a shower head), and that's about it!
Anything else, I tend to leave to professionals - or, at least people that are better at it than me.

Date: 2007-11-13 06:41 pm (UTC)I'm not all that great at installation either. Kellie's more of the installer in the house - she's better at getting things measured out and keeping things level. I just stand around and look pretty.
As for epic fail, that would be a set of drawers that we'd assembled last year. The bottom was a little wider (by a few cm.) than intended, so the bottom drawer is hard to open and rarely used!!

Date: 2007-11-13 08:43 pm (UTC)To be honest, a lot of the repairs I do are necessary, although I have one instance (replacing broken shower tiles) where I did it out of sheer boredom. Really.
