I've been doing quite a bit of reading lately - I just finished the book Lost And Found by Carolyn Parkhurst, and really enjoyed it. (The premise of the book involves an "Amazing Race"-type program, called "Lost And Found" (oddly enough...) and the hodge-podge of people participating in the game, including an ex-gay couple and an estranged mother and daughter.)
Now, I'm reading the Harry Potter oeuvre. You read that correctly. I said reading, as in "this is the first time I've read any of it". I know, I know ... might as well own up to never having seen The Usual Suspects until this month, too.
Anyways, as I said, I'm reading the Harry Potter collection - so far, the first book is really good. I was reading it on the bus this morning, and didn't want to stop reading it! So, I just decided to finish at the 4th chapter, and resume from there.
Finally, Hairspray is coming out next Friday. How do I feel about it? Kind of ambivalent, really. I want to see it - but at the same time, the original Hairspray is like my Rocky Horror Picture Show. So, I'm almost half-prepared to hate the film, since nothing/no one can really compare to Ricki Lake, Divine, Sonny Bono and Debbie Harry. But, I'll give it a chance. That's all I can do, right?

Date: 2007-07-20 11:15 am (UTC)But I'm digressing here.
HP. I was late on the bandwagon as well, having not read the books until after I saw the first movie. And the only reason I even went to see the movie in the first place was for the Star Wars trailer. I kid you not. I wasn't going to stay for the movie, but decided I would, since I didn't pay for it (my friend got me in for free) and was just mesmerized. I went out the next day and bought the first four books at Walmart, and plowed through them in 3 days. Thus began my obsession, which was REALLY bad for a couple of years. I burned out on it though, and now I'm rather indifferent, especially having hated the movie version of Goblet of Fire (which is my favourite book of the series) and having yet to see Order Of The Phoenix. I do really want to read the final book, but since I didn't pre-order it and I refuse to line up for it tonight at midnight (and I work tomorrow), I'm just going to wait a bit.
Of course, this means that I'm going to end up finding out what happens, but I don't really care. :)
Also. Hairspray? Can someone please tell me why this movie even got re-made in the first place? I don't understand it. I haven't seen the original since it came out, but I really enjoyed it and I'm probably going to download a torrent of it this weekend if I can find one so that I can watch it again. I'm not really interested in seeing the new one, though. Especially since there are so many other movies I need to see first (Spiderman 3, Transformers, OOTP).
Heh. I'm rambling. Sorry about that, I'll just post this now.

Date: 2007-07-22 01:56 am (UTC)I'm trying to avoid my friends' blog entries with the spoilers. Which means that I'll have to ignore their blogs for a long-ass time until after I read the books!! ;)
I can't figure out why Hairspray was re-made. The original was most excellent, IMO. And I've seen the new Harry Potter film. Loved it.

But you never saw "The Usual Suspects"????? One of my all time favourite movies. I adore it.
