Platonic Crushes are So 2007
Okay, so the article is mainly about "man crushes" - but the same can certainly apply for us of the female persuasion.
The common categories for the platonic crushes - pick and choose as you wish:
1) Fictional Characters
2) Sports Figures
3) Local Specimens
4) George Clooney
5) The guy at work that always wears nice shirts
6) Guys with falsetto voices that used to date Britney Spears when she was still hot
Fictional Characters: Gil Grissom (William Peterson) on CSI - I happen to have an intellectual crush on his character, as well as liking that whole "Daddy Bear/Mentor" vibe of his.
Han Solo and Luke Skywalker (Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, respectively) - I think that I liked Luke Skywalker because he was cute as hell, and Han Solo because he was brave - and also kind of handsome.
Intellectual Crushes: Lewis Black - he's wickedly funny, and is the centrist-to-left-wing answer to Dennis Miller, minus the condescending tone.
Jon Stewart - Who doesn't have a crush on him? He's pretty easy on the eyes, and delivers the fake news quite well.
The late Peter Jennings - He was a great (real) newscaster. I always liked watching him on ABC's World News Tonight, and I was saddened by the news of his passing.
George Clooney: Do I really have to explain myself on this one? Really?
The guy at work who always wears nice shirts: There's a few of those at my office. Hi Beau, Jason and Abe! *waves* Beau has this kind of preppy boy vibe about him - but he's really quite down-to-earth. Jason has this whole surfer boy vibe - which, he is a surfer, so it makes sense. Abe is just adorable - in a cute, best friend's little brother sort of way.
Musician Crushes: Steven Page - it's the glasses, spiky hair and self-deprecating sense of humor. And, yeah, sometimes I think of making out with him. *blushes*
Pete Wentz - No, I don't want to get into his pants. The boy's too fucking skinny for my tastes. Instead, I just want to take him home to feed him soup and PB & J - and then play Guitar Hero.
John Legend - First, he's damn handsome. Second, he's got a gorgeous voice and could sing a girl out of her panties quite easily.
Fictional Characters: Sara Sidle, Sofia Curtis and Catherine Willows (Jorja Fox, Louise Lombard and Marg Helgenberger, respectively) on CSI. All smart ladies - and quite pretty, too. Catherine is a total MILF - I'll just come out and admit that now.
Intellectual Crushes: Ariel Levy - author of Female Chauvinist Pigs. I loved the book, as well as her writing in general.
Wendy McClure - author of I'm Not The New Me and blogger extrodinaire at Poundy Blog as well as the mastermind behind the website with The Weight Watchers Recipe Cards from 1974. I love her and her awesomeness.
Lynn Peril - author of Pink Think - Becoming a Woman in Many Uneasy Lessons, a book that I've read about a billion times. She also has a column in BUST magazine. She can be found at Pink Think
Musical Crushes: Christina Aguilera - she has managed to re-invent herself and been successful with every reinvention. Also, she came about in the same time period as Britney Spears - yet managed to be the sane one with a strong career, when people assumed that she'd crash and burn.
Oh, and to Peter Hartlaub, who wrote the article that spawned this -- Eva Longoria on most women's Top 3 list?!? Please. I'll take Mia Tyler or Julianne Moore any day.

Date: 2007-06-10 01:24 pm (UTC)As for Aguilera, I've always pretty much liked her. When her and Britney Spears first popped on the scene, I went watch her. She's not a pop princess. Everyone's like yes she is. I'm like no she isn't. She's going to come out as the wild one and surprise everyone. A few years later is when Stripped came out, and that's what I love about her. She ended up saying, yeah, this is what i'm really like and I'm not afraid to say or hide it. I'm not so much of a fan of all the sexy sex sex junk that she always seems to show, but you gotta give a girl props for reinventing herself after being labeled as another pop-sicle.
