I've been thinking of getting a few new tunes from Napster - and I thought I'd get some suggestions/ideas while I was at it.

Here's what I'm looking to get:

Elvis Costello - "Alison"
Betty - "It Girl"
Sebadoh - "Round And Round" (yes, as in Ratt's "Round And Round". This is an acoustic version, apparently.)
Petra Hayden - "I Can See For Miles And Miles"

Maybe even some more Lewis Black comedy. I've practically memorized the "IHOP" piece ... could use some more new stuff.

Since my musical tastes are all over the place (disco, country, metal, emo, punk, jazz) - I'd love to see what you have to suggest! :-)

I've heard Betty's music off and on for years - and they were quite awesome on "The L Word", weren't they?

I think I fell in love all over again ... hehe. :-)

If it weren't for my horse....

I love Lewis. *squeezes him till he can't breathe* I saw him live in Raleigh back in 2003, was supposed to see him right here in Asheville last spring but he cancelled (and I had front row seats!!! Oh, the disappointment). He's da man. (Which reminds me, I have to order his book.)

Same here (on the Lewis Black crush) - he's wickedly funny, very sharp, and I love his wit.

I'll have to post a link to the article about him from the New York Times Sunday Magazine, there was a little on the upcoming book, as well as some things that just made me love him even more!

I've been really into Nellie McKay lately. She's this smart, precocious, 19-year-old girl born in London, raised in New York. Her music is kinda folky (which I'm usually not that into), but different. Songs recommended are "David", "Ding-dong", and "The Dog Song".

They Might Be Giants "Birdhouse in Your Soul", "We Want A Rock", "They'll Need A Crane", and "Anna Ng." Also, "I Palindrome I", "Mammal", "The Statue Got Me High", "Dinner Bell" (It's about Pavlov!), "Don't Let's Start" and "Rhythm Section Want Ad".

*consulting the iPod*

Reverend Horton Heat "Loco Gringos Like A Party" (Rockabilly/Psychobilly)

Coheed and Cambria "A Favor House Atlantic" (Emo)

Ween "Ocean Man" (Alternative/College Rock)

Weezer "The Good Life" (Alternative/College Rock)

White Town "I Could Never Be Your Woman" (Alternative)

Burning Airlines "Outside the Aviary" (Emo)

Anything by The Dismemberment Plan. I heart them. They are college rock/indie rock but very QUIRKY.

Furneral Oration "I Fall Harder" and "Stop For A Moment" (Punk)

The Killers "Somebody Told Me" and "Mr. Brightside" (80's emoish)

Meat Puppets "Lake of Fire" and "Plateau" (80's college rock made famous by Nirvana)

Operation Ivy "The Crowd" and "Sound System" (Punk)

I *love* Nellie McKay - "Dog Song" and "Won't U Please Be Nice?" are two of my favorite songs!

I've got The Killers "Somebody Told Me" - excellent song. Love it so much.

I also love that White Town song - haven't heard it in a million years. :) Also like The Meat Puppets - especially the song "Backwater". And with Weezer, I really like "Island In The Sun" - it sounds kind of fun and happy ... and puts me in a decent mood.

Okay, so you've brought out the Music Dork in me. ;)

CARBON LEAF! ;) I suggest downloading anything from their new album, or, go to Amazon.com and download their 2nd newest(well, 3rd if you count the live album) album, Echo Echo, for free. Or, DL anything from my list of suggestions:

American Tale
The Boxer
Desperation Song
On Any Given Day
Torn to Tattered
Life Less Ordinary
Home
Blue Ridge Laughing
Raise the Roof
Let Your Troubles Roll By
When I'm Alone
What About Everything?
One Prairie Outpost

Actually, you can go to their website (http://www.carbonleaf.com) and hear some stuff from their newest album and then decide if you want to spend your money on it ;)

I'll check that out!

Also - I want to see if I can find that Arrogant Worms song that you'd mentioned "The Coffee Song" ... sounded wickedly funny. :-) And anything that sounds remotely like Denis Leary in the No Cure for Cancer era is all good with me.

You can grab the Petra Hayden, along with some other bizarre covers, here:

http://copycommaright.blogspot.com/

You should try to get on that fairly quickly since songs usually aren't available for more than a week and that was posted yesterday. While you're there I recommend getting Holly Beth Vincent's cover of the Dixie Cups' "Chapel Of Love." It's rockin'.

I've been on a chick music thing lately, so here are some of my favorites in heavy rotation right now that I think you might like, if you don't already have them:

"At Last"-Etta James
"Nothing Compares 2 U"-Sinead O'Connor
"Rhythm Nation"-Janet Jackson
"You Outta Know"-Alanis Morissette
"Hittin' On Nothing"-Irma Thomas
"D-I-V-O-R-C-E"-Tammy Wynette
"Headphones"-Bjork
"Midsummer New York"-Yoko Ono
"Day 37"-Alison Pipitone
"Tiptoe"-Ani DiFranco

Thanks for the heads-up on the Petra Hayden song! :-)

I'll have to check out some of the other stuff that they have - sounds like a very interesting site. :)

Copy, Right? is a great little blog. It's all cover songs, some good, some bad, some downright bizarre, but always entertaining. There's also links to other music blogs at the site, so you just may get happily lost in downloading for awhile. I know I'm addicted.

Thank you very muchly!

And yeah - I've known about Betty for a long time. Only heard their songs intermittently - but I've always liked what I heard.
