Diet Stuff

Is it bad that I'm sitting here in the office, amused to no end, by my two co-workers doing the Cabbage Soup Diet?
They plan to do it for 10 days - yet they almost seem to be breaking on the first and second days, respectively. It's so funny to hear all the rationalizing ("Could we have Juicy Fruit gum?", "What about salad dressing?", etc.), and to think about how they're all highly restricting what they're eating - in the name of a crash diet.
Also, to hear someone say, "I was so good over this weekend" - "good" meaning that she kept to a high protein-low carb diet. WTF is *that* about?
Granted, this weekend, I wasn't perfect - I don't want to be - and I wasn't the best, either. But, I was pretty good. I still had good eats, too. I ate vegetarian pizza and spinach salad at lunch, then had vegan hot dogs for dinner one day. The next day, I had sushi, wine, beer, chocolate - interspersed through the afternoon, and Indian food (including samosas and kheer) at dinnertime. And you know something, it was delicious. I didn't deny myself what I wanted - but I didn't overindulge myself, either.
It's about moderation in all things - including moderation. :-)

Date: 2004-08-16 01:37 pm (UTC)That's all I'm saying...
Oh! And I feel sooooo happy! Since being vegan (shush, occasional turkey and fish is O-Tay!) and watching my intake and following the "eat right 4 your type" thing I've lost weight! I don't know how much because I don't own a scale :(, but Lucas said that I've lost weight and I've gone down a pant size!!! WOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I had no one else to share that with. Nobody else understands. :)

Date: 2004-08-16 02:00 pm (UTC)I'm the last person to slag on anyone for eating fish and fowl occasionally while maintaining a vegan diet. I'm vegetarian, despite having poultry or non-vege sushi from time to time (that recent Albertson's Shrimp debacle kind of burned me on fish) - and the Vege Police haven't beaten down my door yet. ;)
Also, if you're looking for a good community - and some good recipes - check out

Date: 2004-08-16 02:06 pm (UTC)I think people go on crash diets looking for quick fixes, instant gratification. They don't want to meddle in messy things like "exercise" or "balanced, nutritious eating". It's focusing on immediacy, and having results right. now. that really screws them over.
Sure they can lose 5, 10 pounds quickly ... but that doesn't help you when you've gained it back - and then some!
