In the past five months, I've been working on my transition from extremely shy, reserved midwestern insurance geek - whose only concession to a wild streak was red hair and staying out until 2 a.m. on Thursday nights ... into a shy, California insurance geek-cum-rockstar type thing whose wild streaks are more on display.

Recent additions to help in the transition are the following goodies:

A swell level ring, that really works -

A very cool black wristband - with pink and fuschia stars, that was a birthday present from Jeska. I admit, I've been wearing it whenever possible ... like a dork. ;)

The aforementioned hot pink vinyl wallet on a chain (with yellow and orange stars) - kind of sexy and almost butch at the same time.

Coming soon - blonde streaks.

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] hiddensun, who is in the same age range as Adam Gardner of Guster, and me: the "Oh God, I'm Old!" age.

I hope it's a very happy day for you, and that you have many more happy birthdays to come - with the "Oh God, I'm Old!" days being as few and far between as possible!

Right now, the office mood is a bit silly. Then again, when one person is reading aloud from the Learning Annex course catalog, with co-workers making snarky comments and laughing over the idea of a class that will teach students how to "Be Here Nowtm".

Of course, it gets better once it devolves into talk about alignment of chakras - and going to the chiropractor to get one's chakras aligned, drinking Chai lattes to get the Chi in order, and being surrounded by negative energy - followed up by giggling like teenagers over the "Erotic Secrets" class being headed up by Nina Hartley, and another class on Exotic Dance.

We're all old enough to know better ... and young enough to not care anymore. I like this environment, although I still have my occasional "on-edge" moments from the past. I think that sort of thing will probably carry over for a while, though, not much that I can do there.

Last night, I went to Old Navy after work, because the website piqued my curiousity with their swell clothes, and I left with these:

swell floral shirt )

just call me Ms. Green Jeans )

of course, I had to get a purse... )

Also, while I was looking at the clothes, I was approached by a woman offering customers the shopping bags (accepted it) and credit card applications (declined it). After that, she asked where I lived. I replied that I lived in the city. She asked if I shopped at Old Navy very often, and I said that I did. Then, she said to me, "I'm going to give you a Friends and Family Discount Card - just between you and me. You can get 20% off your purchases this week."

So, I did - I saved 20% on my purchases yesterday, then took the card home to Kellie, so she could go to Old Navy some time this week and perhaps pick up some goodies at 20% off as well. :-D
