Family Update
Dec. 16th, 2003 12:41 pmThis week, things are going somewhat better for the family. Mom and Taylor are in good health - thank G*d and Everyone Else.
Dan, unfortunately, is experiencing a recurrence of mononucleosis (he had it a few years ago) - and has given it to his girlfriend. They are still coming to visit, and will just have to put up with the family wearing masks and treating them like they have SARS or something. ;)
My stepdad is alright - to my knowledge, he still has to have the surgery for his Diabetic Retinopathy, but his blood pressure (hypertension, this time) is apparently balancing out ... or, they just aren't saying anything about it right now.
Yesterday, while he was at dialysis, he did have an experience that would probably scare the hell out of me. A patient sitting two chairs down from him, also undergoing dialysis, died in the chair. The nurses performed CPR, an ambulance was called in - all the efforts to resuscitate this person were in vain, and the coroner was called in. What really makes it somewhat unsettling is that this patient was about the same age as my stepdad. (He's alright - although I'd imagine that it probably shook him up just a bit!)
And you all know how I'm doing. I'm here - and some days, that's all I can ask.
