Reconciliation
Dec. 5th, 2003 12:25 pmYou know - I've come to terms with this about myself ... and it's okay. :)
I think everyone knows of somebody that's a big time Art House Movie Geektm - they're always on top of the cool Indie films, and going on and on about the virtues of certain actors (Steve Buscemi and Phillip Seymour Hoffman) and actresses (Lili Taylor and Parker Posey), yet deep down inside, they harbor this secret guilty love of mainstream films. Or Teen Sexploitation-type films. Or really bad horror films. You get the idea.
Well, I'm the opposite. I am perfectly okay in admitting that I *loved* films like Empire Records and PCU - and Kevin Smith's oeuvre truly rocked my soul. I still love those John Hughes films from the '80s, and the words "Zucker Abrams Zucker" automatically get me thinking of films like Airplane! and Naked Gun. But, deep down inside, I want to be cool and be able to discuss Kurosawa's oeuvre beyond "oh yeah, he did a lot of Samurai films!", or get into the cool art house movies and foreign films beyond my "just scratching the surface" exploration of those films.
In the meantime, I'm going to try and take my sister to see Elf tomorrow afternoon - because that's what cool siblings get to do ... be cool because they're not mom and dad. ;) And maybe some other night, I'll go out to see Die Mommie Die! just because it's an art house film & Jason Priestley is in it - and he's damn cute.

Date: 2003-12-05 01:40 pm (UTC)Awhile back I watched PCU and posted about how much I loved that movie.
I had to explain it everyone, since none of them had ever seen it.
You have AWESOME taste in movies.
