Work Rant

Well I could've prayed to assorted Deities and still had to go into work today. When I got there, I found out that Sherry's dog has kennel cough and an enlarged heart. (You know, I'm starting to feel like the Angel of Death when it comes to animals.) Rachelle was out sick, and I got slammed, phone-wise.

One of our companies seems to specialize in fucking things up royally at every turn - billing is no exception. Hell, I think today was just one great big billing debacle - regardless of company:

1) A client mailed payments for her insurance on the same day - the company has only received one check, and she refuses to stop payment, thinking that the company has misplaced her money. When she gets cancelled, she'll piss and moan at me for sure.

2) Another client received the bill for a new policy - but the bill doesn't show the payment sent in with the applications. A call to the company's billing department gets me routed to a CSR in the middle of East Jesus, who tells me that she has to refer this to another person altogether. Oh yeah, could I fax over copies of the checks that went with the applications?

3) One of my last calls of the day, from someone that is becoming the bane of my existence. She's gotten a refund check from the company, and wants to know why. After putting in a call to billing, I find out that the money sent in was applied to the auto portion of the policy - which doesn't go into effect until March. The remainder, rather than being applied to the homeowners, was returned to the client. I ask the company to transfer the monies to the homeowners policy, then call the client back, only to get ripped a new asshole. Lucky me, I got to hear about how there were so many errors on the policy, how the transaction is more involved than it should be, how I'm to blame for this.

I wanted so badly to tell her to take her fucking business elsewhere. Instead, I was professional *rolls eyes* and refrained from telling her this. I also kept from telling her that I didn't have to put up with her being that way towards me, that I'd had a shit weekend and today certainly wasn't better.

Still ... I hate how some of the clients can be such fucking arrogant solipsistic pricks. The way that they take out their issues with the companies on us - as though we don't have some of the same problems at our end. Go ahead, threaten to take your business elsewhere. Forgive me if I don't act distraught.

I don't know what makes some people feel as though they are somehow better than everyone else, as though I should bow down and genuflect when they call. I know I should be nice to the clients (and I am), but I refuse to kiss your "the world owes me a living" ass, alright? You're not gonna make me run from my job. But I'm tempted to ask you to help foot the bill on my Prevacid. You didn't give me stomach problems (thank Paxil for that), but you're not helping them at all.

I swear, I do love my job. But today had me wondering why I even bother sometimes, when people can be so rude and condescending.
