Retail Whore
Jan. 31st, 2003 11:04 pmAfter work, I got a wild hair in me and decided that I wanted to get a tiara for the office - you know, the standard issue homecoming queen type. Something Courtney Love or a riot grrrl would've worn in the mid-90s.
I did get my tiara, and after buying it, I went to the restroom in the mall, brushed out my hair and promptly put that thing on my head. And walked around the mall all evening with it on. No one really said anything - and those that did complimented me on it, asked what it was for, etc. It was quite fun to do that. Just because.
After getting my tiara, I set about doing my "at random" shopping. I've decided that if I need tennis shoes - or have money to blow on dress shoes - I'm going to get them at Easy Spirit. Or at least from Easy Spirit.
Here's why: While I am a big girl, I can abuse the hell out of my tennis shoes because I do *a lot* of walking. Yet, every time I've gone to Lady Foot Locker, they have been rather rude - even if it wasn't deliberate. Now, I don't want someone to be in my face every step of the way - but at least say hello and ask if you can help me ... even if I'm just browsing. And don't look at me like I'm a freak when I ask for cross-trainers.
So, I decided that my money spends exactly the same way as anyone else's. And that my money would be spent elsewhere. Tonight, that place was the Easy Spirit shop at the mall. I don't go in there often because I just can't fathom spending $75 for a pair of shoes ... yet, I probably should invest that kind of money with the way I abuse my shoes and feet. Anyways, they were having a sale ... so it was hard to say no. I went in looking at dress shoes - left with a pair of tennis shoes, as well as a desire to go there again because they're helpful and don't act like I'm a wierdo for getting tennis shoes.
Otherwise ... I love that we have Harry & David shops in town. For years, I have pored over the catalogs, doing my wishful shopping. Thinking of how I'd want random months of the Fruit of the Month Club - give me the pears (yum), oranges and apples. Keep the plums. Anywho ... I'd gone in to see what they'd had, and found a small gift tower for the holidays marked down 75% to $6.00. Two of their pears, a small box of chocolates, some mixed nuts, and best of all, their chocolate cherries (cherries dipped in chocolate - no funky goop like those cordial cherries). I'm tempted to get another box tomorrow, since it's the only way I could ever afford that kind of thing - on clearance ... hehe.
