With my sister giving birth in April (yeah ... in about 2 or so months. I'm feeling ancient here!) I've decided to do what I'm calling a "Book Project". This project involves gathering up favorite books of family members (aunts, uncle, mother) to give to my niece.

I've gotten the following books so far:

"The Poky Little Puppy" - my favorite
"The Monster At The End of the Book" - my brother's favorite
"I Am A Bunny" - Kellie's favorite
"Go, Dogs! Go!" - my sister's favorite

Along with "Pat The Bunny", "Good Night Moon" and "Harry The Dirty Dog" (another one of my favorites).

What I'll be doing is writing a note in the book like, "This was so-and-so's favorite book when they were a kid, and we want to share it with you". I will be doing this when my brother and sister-in-law have their own kids as well. :-)

Anyways ... I'd like to know. What was your favorite book as a kid?

What a great idea!

I loved "The Giving Tree", anything by Richard Scary, and I think all kids need "Where Did I Come From?".

I was a huge fan of Poky Little Puppy and The Monster At The End Of This Book, but my favourite was probably Green Eggs & Ham (first book I ever read by myself!) or Marvin K. Moony, Will You Please Go Now!. Seuss! \o/

Also, One Fish, Two Fish. And The Cat In The Hat. Um. I'll stop now ;)

My favorite book when I was little was The Mitten by Jan Brett. I also really like the Amelia Bedelia books by Peggy Parish.

What a cool idea!

Well, you already mentioned "The Monster At The End of This Book", but I certainly hope it's the GROVER version and not the Elmo one. :)

My others were "Make Way for Ducklings" and "Blueberries for Sal", but they are decidedly New England-themed books, written by New England authors.

Great idea, BTW. Favorite childhood book was what I asked for from all of my baby shower invitees. :)

My favourite was Sammy The Seal. I just loved that one.

Harry the Dirty Dog is a favourite of both mine and Emma's!

Where the Wild Things Are is another great one.

Guess How Much I Love You is one I really liked ready to Emma when she was tiny.

Too many to choose from!

I distinctly remember loving Where the Wild Things Are, and the Harold and the Purple Crayon books are magical.

Great idea! I had all the Dr. Suess books and Little Golden Books. I think my favorite was Are you my Mother?. The book that I loved to read to my daughter the most was The Whispering Rabbit.

I can't believe I forgot Where the Wild Things Are!

That, and, as I twittered, the Rotten Ralph books...

And Where the Sidewalk Ends, though that became a favorite in 1st/2nd grade.

OMG that is such a sweet idea! YOu're going to be the coolest aunt ever!

I totally recommend Thunder Cake, but I can't remember the author. It helped me get over my fear of thunder storms.

This is a wonderful idea.
The Saggy Baggy Elephant was my favorite.
My kids loved Parts, but I don't remember the author. It's about a little boy who thinks his body is falling apart when he finds thinks like lint in his bellybutton, earwax, etc. It's really cute.

Oh, and, Where the Wild Things Are is an excellent book, too.

A must for your sister is I love You Forever.

I used to love this book called "Noisy Nora." Lord only knows who wrote it. It was a silly little poem about this mouse who kept disrupting the family by being loud. The rhyme scheme is so easy my Mother says I had the whole thing memorized at 3 years old, so I would think most kids would enjoy it.
