I don't want to turn into a hypochondriac - or a total Drama Mama here - but, I'm finding it a bit peculiar that some days, I can get up stairs, hills and other minor inclines with no problems. Other days, I'm huffing and puffing as though I had just run a friggin' marathon.

Nothing has changed physically - my weight has actually gone down, so I like to think that my physical condition is improving. I know that my allergies tend to be an upper-respiratory thing, manifested in watery eyes, constant sneezing, runny nose/ congestion, sore throat - but on occasion, it gets into coughing and wheezing attacks.

Sometimes, the coughing and wheezing hits at the worst moments - last Saturday, for example: I was talking to Kellie, laughing over some witty/stupid comment one of us had made, when all of a sudden, my sides and stomach started to tighten and I was having trouble breathing. I was laughing so hard that I didn't know if I was crying because I was laughing so much, or crying because I was freaked out over the sudden onset of side and stomach constriction.

I know, I need to get off my ass and call the doctor, if only to get some better allergy meds, because the Claritin just isn't working. I just want to know if I'm possibly dealing with asthma - or making much to-do over nothing at all?

Hey Muse! just a thought, but why don't you see if there is a correlation between the days you "huff and puff" and the air quality being very poor?

Just a thought, could be nothing, or may be worth the effort to see the news or the papers for that factoid daily.

Good luck with that!

That's a good idea - I know that when I was in St. Louis, we had Yellow and Red Air Days like crazy!

(And I checked the Weather.com website - apparently everything here in the City is fine, no funky stuff in the air. Although, if I were back in St. Louis, the mold levels would probably have me at their mercy ... lol)

sounds kind of asthma-like, but i'm no expert since i don't have it. my dad does, though, and it developed for him i think when he was in his 30's (which surprised me because i thought it was something you were born with). and if my allergies get really bad then it feels like asthma to me, kind of like you were describing - getting wheezy and feeling like it's hard to breathe. so it might not be full-blown asthma, but i don't think you're a hypochondriac to wonder about it. and you should definitely get better allergy meds! ;)

Yeah, I'd always heard of people (and had friends) that developed asthma as children, never heard of it happening in adults - which is why it has me kind of concerned!

If you don't smoke, I'd say it's asthma. Lucas has it and he has the same problems, but not as much since he quit smoking.

I tried smoking a couple of times - hehe - but it never became a habit, and the last time I was in a smoke-filled room (months ago), I was totally miserable for at least a day or so afterwards.
