It's time for the Quarterly Birthday Celebration - including cake.

The only thing is, it was an ersatz Tiramisu from a bakery that doesn't know sponge cake from ladyfingers.

I had a piece, it was craptastic - and I wasted my Points on "couldn't even pass for mediocre" cake. I'd rather have spent the 6 points on a half-bar of Scharffen-Berger chocolate and a container of soy milk, because that would be more satisfying.

Instead, I'm here ... feeling blah, blah, bleargh. Wondering just what in the name of Gordon Gano has plunged me into this funkiest of funks - and why do I feel like I can't shake out of it?

maybe a serenade, Gano style, will get you out of your funk...

*sings*
When I'm out walking, I strut my stuff
and I'm so strung out.
I'm high as as kite, and I just might
stop to check you out

hubba hubba. ;)

I still don't understand why you don't stop after the first bite, when you realize it's crappy. That would save your points.

For a few reasons. One, I wanted cake - so I ate it. Two, it's that whole "clean plate club - don't waste anything" mentality. Three, I was hungry, bored and feeling out of it - and went for food to fill the void.

Obviously that is your decision to make. But it just seems to me that after realizing it was not worth the points, you would stop. Or at least now that you realize that is why you ate it (and you regret consuming the points when it was not satisfying and enjoyable), then you would not do it again.

You wanted cake, so you had a bite. But you didn't want crappy cake. So put it down and go get a cupcake or something that you know IS sweet and tasty. That is worth your points.

If you don't want to waste it, go outside and give it to a street person. I'm sure it won't taste as crappy to them. When you try new things, you win some and lose some. But you double lose when you waste a lot of points on something that does not taste great.

Even if you did need food to fill your void (as we all do from time to time - ahem germanchocolatecake ahem), at least recognize that and make is something truly enjoyable. Like soy yogurt and a banana. Or a brownie you know you LOVE.

Like I said, how you use your points is up to you. But it just seems super silly and wasteful in a whole other way to continue to eat something (anything, really) that you don't love.
