Man, hiddenmusesium almost has me thinking "Milk of Magnesia" ... probably because of the "milky, pasty" part of that description.

But, there it is. I am a chemical that has yet to be listed on the Table of Elements. ~:^)

I'd posted this last night, going through my initial, visceral reaction to what I'd read.

Now, here's something a bit more rational. I think.

I know that cancer is a very serious thing - my stepdad has it, so believe me, I know firsthand how serious it is. My big problem comes in the form of people writing about inconclusive studies on websites that many of us put our trust into, thinking that what we're reading has credence - or why would they even post it? *coughwebmdcough*

Cancer can be scary as hell, and I know that people want cures for it, or at least an idea of how to prevent it. So when some borderline charlatan comes along with a crackpot theory, many buy into it, thinking that if they stop wearing underwire bras or using deodorant, they're working towards not developing breast cancer.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Life has risks - good, bad, indifferent. Even if you did everything that the crackpot conspiracy theorists suggested, you could still be at risk for cancer, because they haven't figured out (yet) how to work around genetic pre-disposition.

Besides that, what fun would life be if we had to spend the remainder of our existence cordoned off in bubbles to avoid every little thing that may come around? Because, that's what you'd risk doing to yourself if you believe every little thing that is being passed off as gospel truth when it comes to health and illness.

Personally, I read what is out there, and take it all with a huge grain of salt. (And yes, I know, that huge grain of salt can hike up my blood pressure - although, that's actually been disputed.) It sometimes make me the "I'll believe it when I see it" type, but perhaps that skepticism and dose of cynicism is just what the doctor ordered in this case.

And that's all there is for now. Thanks for reading along!
