It's a sad day off for me, as Sid, my little angry black bunny, has died.

He was about 5 years old - I'd had him for over 3 years. I'd greet him in the mornings, and when I came home from work. When I had to clean out his cage, he would get out of the cage and hide behind the couch for a few hours. When I first moved into the apartment, he got into the habit of gnawing on the cords to my TV and VCR - which are taped up with duct tape.

Surprisingly, Sid was a finicky eater. He'd eat the kibble he liked the most, then root through the bowl for more of what he liked, leaving the rest for last - or desperation. If he was given food he didn't like, he'd upend the bowl, or just ignore it until he was hungry.

I'm just sitting here in shock, bawling my eyes out like a goddamn baby - feeling absolutely pathetic right now.

So, rest in peace, Mr. Sidworthy - you know you were loved.

After crying until I had a major headache, I cleaned up around Sid's cage as much as possible, and gave him a proper "casket" (an Easy Spirit shoebox) before rigor mortis set in completely.

Then, I went out bowling - played 3 games, never got my score above the 60s. Not too bad, considering that I haven't bowled in almost 5 years. I even went for retail therapy, and refrained from excessive spending - or eating - out of depression.

My mom came by this evening and helped me get the cage cleaned out, and took Sid home for a "proper burial" this weekend - in other words, something more dignified than being dropped in a trash can. She thought the Easy Spirit box was quite appropriate, saying that "Sid's an easy spirit now". She'd also mentioned that rabbits have an average life expectancy of 4-5 years, so Sid had led a full life. :)

Of course my gallows humor came out when I thought of the Monty Python "Dead Parrot" sketch this evening. I thought of what it was like to handle that bunny corpse ... and all I could come up with was John Cleese beating a dead parrot on a desk to illustrate that it was "no longer ... it has ceased to exist". I'd never go to that extreme - but it gave me a momentary laugh.

When it all comes down, it was probably best that it happened while I was off work - rather than before I left for work, or coming home to discover Sid dead of a heart attack. And it's also good that I have tomorrow off work. Maybe Sid and everyone else involved knew what they were doing, in some strange way.

Tomorrow, I'm going bowling again. I've been dared to go bowling while wearing my tiara - and be photographed doing so. So I'll do that in the afternoon. In the morning, I have to change lightbulbs & do some laundry.

Finally, thank you to everyone that has left a note for me in the previous entry. I appreciate your kind words and thoughts - it means a lot to me right now.

Love,
Carly
