Okay ... I admit it. For the longest time, I rebelled against liking The White Stripes, because of the influx of all those fucking "The" bands in the scene. It seems (or seemed ... can't really tell anymore), like if you want the critics to cream their jeans over your band, just add "The" to your name and they'll be arriving all over themselves, declaring you the best thing since sliced bread and The Beatles.

It really worked my nerves. The Strokes. The Hives. The White Stripes. The insert random noun/verb/adjective here.

So, what's happened to me? I find myself in love with The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army", because it's got a kick-ass beat - even if I can barely understand the words. And hearing Joss Stone's cover of "Fell In Love With A Girl" ... well, yeah. You can figure out the rest.

OutKast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Oh Jeebus. I fought getting this one for a while, because I'm not much on rap, and I didn't want to just get it for one song ("Hey Ya!"), then feel like I'd wasted my money on the rest of it.

Granted, I haven't listened to Big Boi's Speakerboxxx CD yet - I probably will, eventually. But, Andre 3000's The Love Below CD is very very cool. Funky, crazy music - with Norah Jones, Kelis (on "Dracula's Wedding") and Rosario Dawson featured on a few tunes, as well as the most interesting song about masturbation that I've ever heard - "Vibrate".

Joss Stone - The Soul Sessions. I'd heard a lot of good things about Joss' music, but didn't get to hear it until I'd gone to Vintage Vinyl a couple of months ago, and they were playing her CD. Her voice seemed to blow a lot of people away - especially when they found out that she's 16, British, and a little blonde girl. She sounds far more mature than her years - almost reminds me of Janis Joplin or Nina Simone. (I'm sure that others with more diverse musical tastes could come up with better comparisons than I have.)

The CD is excellent, and like I'd mentioned earlier, she does a cover of The White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl" (called "Fell In Love With A Boy", of course) that makes me feel like dancing around the room.

More CD reviews & such later! I'm starting to wind down some, so I'd better take my meds and get my clothes together for work tomorrow!

ohhhhh. I've wanted OutKast for a bit now, and you just sold me on it! I love, love, love, the also single on the Big Boi side, "I like the way you move". It's got these amazing horns, and this great hook, as well as the cool soul singing. wooooot.

I'll definitely have to listen to the Big Boi side now! (If I can pry my CD walkman open!) ;)

It just sucks that I can't exactly listen to it at work ... hehe.
