I'll spare my friends and lovelies the deluge of reviews of the new Barenaked Ladies CD, and not share my review just yet. Actually, I want a few days to play the hell out of it before I commit opinions to my blog. :)


In the meantime, I will say that I like the art in the liner notes - especially the image of Kevin. I think he's managed to accomplish what a few of us sick little puppies haven't been able to - defiling his image as the Male Virgin Mary. (For anyone that doesn't have the CD yet - shock! horror! - the image of Kevin does show him in bed, in his PJs. On the nightstand next to his bed, a box of condoms (with an opened packet) and lube. I'm sure that the barenaked.net board will be spammed with the "take him home and be good to him, cos he's innocent" Hearniaks getting their panties in a bunch over that image, while the rest of us (read: perverts) shrug it off with, "well, duh - he's human."



But enough on that. In other news and such - work is still feeling like it could drive me insane. Tomorrow, if I'm not mistaken, we have a company rep coming in, along with an underwriter, so if we're dragged (or is it "drug"?) into this meeting, I will be propping my eyes open with toothpicks or something. If nothing else, I will be taking in a few new(er) CDs for the work CD collection, so I'll have some tunes to keep me awake and going through the day.

I've decided that the beginning of Have You Seen My Love has an old school Harry Connick Jr. feel to it.

You're not off-base at all. :)

It does start off sounding a bit like a Harry Connick, Jr. song - and for some reason, the acoustic version (from the DVD) almost sounds like a country song! Either way, it's got a beautiful melody that shrouds the pain in the lyrics.

you KNOW that was the first thing I picked up right away, right? I told Andy (my friend) "There's rubbers next to his bed, RAWK!" And then of course I had to make a joke about how he was just preparing for me ;)

I loved it, I thought it was great personally. He's probably sick as hell of people thinking he's a fucking saint, (I know *I'M* tired of hearing it now) and I think it is AWESOME. It's fodder for my fantasies too, but eh, I'll deal... :)

Oh lordy - he has to be sick of it! I mean, yes, he was a choirboy and all, but even I (a non-Catholic) know what those choirboys and altar boys wore beneath the robes - heavy metal t-shirts. ;)

The proper past tense of drag is dragged. Also, I haven't see the new Barenaked Ladies album, but I don't understand why anyone would get upset about that picture. The man is wearing pajamas for heaven's sake! The guy has an open condom package and is fully clothed? That sounds like a turnoff to me. Your description of the picture leads me to believe that this dude is maybe a little extreme about the safe sex. If he's in bed alone, he doesn't need a condom to put his hands down his pjs and wank off, though you can never have too much lube.

Well, long story (very) short, Kevin Hearn has an image to some of the female fans as being sweet and innocent. If anyone *ever* suggests that Kevin would be involved in anything remotely sexual - even with himself - they get cataclysmic. Granted, some of these girls are under 18, but some are in their 20s.

What they'd get upset over is the condoms & lube at the bedside - and the implication that their sweet, innocent, virginal Kevin would actually have sex.

And people wonder why he looks terrified around fans...

These people sound very sad, even if they are under 18. Healthy grown people have sex, deal with it! Haven't they heard of groupies? He's a rock star, for heaven's sake! Easily getting laid is a prime benefit. Perhaps what really upsets them is the thought that their sweet, innocent, virginal Kevin might be having sex with someone other than themselves. I have a feeling they fantasize about Mr. Hearn chastely kissing them and then...and then...oh, shut the mind down before it leads to temptation. Thanks for the explanation.
