Eugoogolies, No E-mail and Other Stuff
Sep. 12th, 2003 12:52 pm"You can have it all, my empire of dirt/ I will let you fall, I will make you hurt."
Sure, Trent Reznor sang the song, but when Johnny Cash performed it, he seemed to breathe a new life into it. He made it feel more poignant and haunting, to where it could just send chills down your spine.
Waking up to the news of his loss seemed to feel like a silmultaneous "well, it was bound to happen" and "what a shame". He'd had a long storied life, that's for sure. I like to think that he's back with June, and they're continuing their (after)life together, the way it should be for them.
A loss that I certainly wasn't expecting was John Ritter's. Of course I knew of some of his other work, but I remember him most as "Jack Tripper" on Three's Company, just like any other Gen X-er, I'm sure.
He was a young man - turning 55 next Wednesday, and having just celebrated a daughter's birthday the same day he passed on. I don't really know what to say, except that I, like many many others, express my sympathy to his family and loved ones.
As for no e-mail ... the e-mail at work is being all funky-dunky, and has been for the past 2 days. :( So, I'll probably come back to 300 zillion e-mails on Wednesday, and people wondering why I didn't respond to their e-mail from last Thursday!!
Family Update: My stepdad's 3-day "nuke 'em" test was put on hold. Instead, today, he's going in for a lung biopsy, to see if the doctors can find out why *exactly* he keeps having problems with the edema. And, he'll be in the hospital for a while longer - or, at least until he's able to breathe on his own.
Poor Taylor is starting to lose her resolve. She's talking about wanting to give up ice skating, because she hasn't been to the rink in weeks - instead spending time at the hospital. So, my mom's doing what she can to help Taylor out & getting Taylor in for a lesson with her coach tonight. Perhaps that can help her feel less discouraged, and pick up her spirits some. :)
The Non Prophets show was terrific, as always. This week, they were running a bit short-staffed, because a few cast members are in other plays in town, and one cast member got into a softball v. mouth match and lost (20 stitches & 5 teeth knocked out), so the show was, in the Guy's words "sketches that don't need to be rehearsed". Still, it worked, and took my mind off the week's events, and the nightmares that were still haunting me that day.
I'll have to post a message to their board & tell them that I appreciated the comic relief, and their ability to help me forget the not-so-stellar things that may have happened in the week. Gotta keep up the groupiedom, you know. ;)
