Those would be the wild guesses at the name of my stepdad's oncologist. Mom's not sure of his exact name, just knows that he's got an accent like Antonio Banderas, spent a long time with them yesterday (over an hour) discussing treatment options - pros and cons, websites to go to for information, as well as his working with the doctors at Indiana University Hospital (the same hospital that treated Lance Armstrong) on how to go about treating my stepdad's case.

Mom told me that she thought the doctor's name was "Cuervo" or "Cuevas". Perry thought it sounded like a Star Trek character's name - "Quark". I told mom that if it were "Dr. Cuervo", THAT doctor could help you forget everything! No matter - they're happy with him so far, and they're weighing the options for treatment.

He goes in for a CAT scan of his lungs soon, to see if his pnuemonia may have been caused by something that wasn't previously noticed - in other words, to see if the cancer may have mestatasized, and gone to his lung(s). That's the thing with testicular cancer - it's pretty wily, and tends to strike other parts of the body. Thankfully, though, the survival rate is 98%.

I just know that I haven't really told anyone at work, besides the few people in my department. This is mainly because one of the vice presidents lost his son to testicular cancer several years ago - and I'd hate to find out that it's still a sensitive topic for him or something. Besides, right now, I'm still keeping it on a need-to-know basis.

The only reason you all know is because you're reading this - and sometimes, it just helps to get those things out, and off my chest. Otherwise, I'd be carrying them around with me, like an incredible psychic weight on my shoulders. Talking about it makes me feel better, puts my mind at ease, and reminds me that I'm certainly not alone here.

I feel lucky that my parents don't have cancer since my dad's sister has breast cancer (third time around), and one of my mom's sisters has brain cancer. I hope your dad's hasn't moved to his lungs...
