I'm a Slasher, baby!
Jan. 12th, 2003 03:18 pmNo, "slasher" doesn't refer to someone that takes cutting to an extreme. No, it's not the hockey term, either. And it surely doesn't mean that I want to be Jason or Freddy when I grow up.
Instead, slashers are people (typically women) that like to read/write male/male sex scenes. It got its roots from Kirk and Spock on Star Trek many moons ago, and still carries on to this day.
The interesting thing about slash (I've noticed) is that a lot of it is written by bisexual women and lesbians. Straight women write it, too - I just think it's a bit humourous that the women that have very little, if any, interaction with dick tend to write the hottest homoerotic tales. Now, this isn't to say that there isn't the occasional man that writes the stuff - one of my guy friends writes the occasional slash piece, and what he writes is very hot - and re-read by me occasionally because it's so damn hot.
Fanfiction.net used to be a hotbed of hot slash action - and was how I first got into slash, actually. Ah yes ... Brian Molko (Placebo) and Eminem, Lars Ulrich making Fred Durst his bitch, you get the idea.
My first attempts at it were nothing less than horrible, but I didn't have much to go on. As time went on, the stuff got better, in my opinion. Due to the content and such, and out of respect for people that have qualms about reading such tales (especially with it being almost slash verite), I keep it out of the lj forum - even in my own journal. If there were a demand to read the stories, I'd set up a separate group on my friends list and make the stories available to be read.
Otherwise, I keep it within a small circle of friends and a separate, relatively privately-held forum. So don't worry, I won't be flaunting any tales of man-loving in anyone's faces anytime soon. Unless that's your cup of tea, of course. ;)
