I loved this part of the book, because Shar Rednour discusses body size and issues that a lot of us deal with on a daily basis. :) So, I'm excerpting it - if you want the entire thing, read the book yourself, my dears. ;)
"...Magazines, folks who want to make money off unhappy people, and television do send lots of messages.... But communication is a two-way street.... Yes, a lot of people think women look better if they're smaller. And you know what? A lot of people think women look good if they look good. The demon that a woman bigger than a size 9 has to face is not a potential date or the cover of the latest fashion rag - it's herself. Your eyes are the most critical eyes that will ever fall on you. You may have been called names in the past or may even hear snickers here and there.... They're weaklings who are too immature to take control of their brains. They are the sheep. You, my dear, want a wolf. You are yummy, and you want to be eaten alive!
"....If you're doing something about your weight but still don't like your body, look in the mirror and tell yourself, 'Girl, this is why the Goddess made different strokes for different folks. I may not like what I see, bu I'm damn sure glad others do.' We shouldn't get our ego from others, but this isn't therapy, honey, this is the real world, so don't disbelieve a lusting face or a wagging tongue. Frankly, in Shartopia, it's a sin against the Goddess to not like your body no matter its limitations. It can do something; you figure out what that is and like it. Your body needs to be able to laugh, cry, receive affection, and give affection.
"....Finally, I not only want you to get over your negative stuff about size, but also I'm going to take this moment in the spotlight to make a plea for you to help others get over theirs as well.... If you're bigger than a size 9 and you want to change the world, submit your spectacular self to the camera. It takes courage and a little chutzpah to change the status quo, but you can do it!"
{For the record, Shar isn't a zaftig gal - but I loved her encouragement to those of us who are.}
