"Who re-wrote The Book of Love? Texas, of Course!"
Some choice selections from the article: {Italicised comments are my own.}
Board member Terri Leo, a Republican, said she was pleased with the publishers' changes. She had led the effort to get the publishers to change the texts, objecting to what she called "asexual stealth phrases" {Way to piss off the
asexuals and
asexuality - and I don't mean unicellular creatures, either!} such as "individuals who marry."
"Marriage has been defined in Texas, so it should also be defined in our health textbooks that we use as marriage between a man and a woman," Leo said.
Yes, because we're all so stupid, we need to have the Government define marriage for us. If people are so afraid of their marriages falling apart, why aren't they working on the internal influences - namely, what happens in their own homes - rather than fixating on how 99.99% of the populace live their lives?
Texas lawmakers last year passed a law that prohibits the state from recognizing same-sex civil unions. The state already had a ban on gay marriage.
Neither publisher added all the changes Leo initially pushed for. For instance, one proposed passage in the teacher's editions read: "Opinions vary on why homosexuals, lesbians and bisexuals as a group are more prone to self-destructive behaviors like depression, illegal drug use, and suicide."
Well, thank G*d for that. Honestly, I can think of *many* heterosexuals that are (and were) prone to those "self-destructive" behaviors. What do they say for the straight kids that do drugs, attempt suicide or suffer from depression? Are they just flaming faggots or something? Hell, why not fill those poor kids' heads with those ideas? Get the straight-as-arrows kids thinking that they're fegelehs because they'd smoked pot or they're on Prozac ... yeah, that's smart. Drive them to suicide that way, then blame it on the music.
Okay - enough of my being grumpy. What are your thoughts?
