The wisdom of Hal Sparks:
Hal Sparks (for those of you who don't know) is an actor/comedian/musician who is currently on the Showtime Series "Queer As Folk" and has appeared on the "I Love the 70s, 80s, and 90s" series on VH1. He also hosted "Talk Soup" on the E! channel a few years back. Anywho, I have always found his thoughts on life insightful, so I thought I would share this one, which was just posted on his Q&A at his message board: http://www.halslair.com/viewtopic.php?t=759

Question: If you saw a person who was about to jump off a bridge, what would you say to talk him/her down?

Hal's Answer: First I would look around to see if I was trapped on a burning bridge… because then I would join him But If he was going to commit suicide I'd ask him to step down, sign an organ donor card first... Then I'd say, "If you want to kill yourself go ahead... But you don't have to die to do it. If your life is so bad.... Leave. Get in a car and drive. Go to a foreign country. Move away. Abandon your old life and start from scratch. You can always kill yourself but you can never take it back. If you are strong enough to kill yourself then you should be strong enough to handle anything. Change. Let your old life die and let your true self live."
