Back again
Jul. 23rd, 2003 05:43 pmI know, it's been a while since I'd last posted. Here I am again, finally ready to talk.
Yeah, there are some things going on with my family - and I didn't really feel like discussing them because things were still up in the air and rather hush-hush. Also, I didn't want it to seem like I was throwing a pity party for myself or something.
Recently, my stepdad found that he had a lump on a testicle. He got it checked out, and the doctor (urologist) told him that it was a tumor. So, about 2 weeks ago, my stepdad went in for surgery to have the testicle removed (orchiectomy, I think it's called), and to get the tumor checked out by Pathology. In the meantime, he had to also undergo blood work and a CAT scan, to make sure that there wasn't any spreading of the cancer.
Before I went on vacation last Friday, I got word that the tumor was benign, that there wasn't any other cancer in his body, and that he'd be undergoing chemotherapy as a preventative measure. His prognosis looks good, and being a guy, his biggest concern with undergoing chemo is losing his hair. (Go figure!)
So, yeah, life was definitely in the balance for a little while there. I had to deal with my feelings about this whole situation - which did put things into perspective for me.
I will write later about my trip out west - the good, bad and indifferent. But now, I should be heading home from work!
