Dec. 22nd, 2002 08:12 pmJust got back from spending the weekend with my family. I spoiled the puppies - even if they got my allergies into overdrive. :(
Last night and this morning, I got reminders of why Mormon Culture completely sucks. My brother and a friend of his were being given shit for not being married yet. {Y'see, about 150 years ago, one of the church leaders stated that 'any man over 25 that is not married is a menace to society' - and that archaic idea has stuck in peoples' pretty little heads.} I told my brother that for some people, it takes time to find quality - and if you're gonna spend the rest of your life with that person, you want to make sure that you're making the right choice.
Still, it irks me that people hold to this archaic idea of single men over 25 being menaces to society. It only serves to make the Mormon Dating Game a nightmare. You get horny 21 year olds fresh off their church missions paired with giggly young ladies whose main objective in life seems to be "get married and help repopulate the Earth". And if those young people can't find someone in an unofficially-prescribed period of time, they become anxious and seem to be up for marrying almost *anyone*, consequences be damned.
Maybe it's a good thing that many of the guys I know are married with families ... so I have an excuse for not being married. Kinda hard to meet someone when most of the single people you know are almost 10 years younger - or the people closer to your age are already married. :-P
Still, the whole dating/marriage game is fucked. No matter what your religious/spiritual beliefs, or your social situation. Makes me glad that I'm a girl, because there isn't so much pressure on my head to get married. :)
