I've been laying low this weekend, because I managed to get a sore throat & runny nose yesterday - so I feel kind of crappy.
Besides that, nothing too eventful has happened, really. Just the same old, same old. Although, I did slip on the ice en route to the dumpster in the back of my apartment complex - I'm always afraid of slipping and falling flat on my ass, yet every time I fall on the ice, it's directly onto my left knee. Last night was no exception. (And I wonder why my left knee gets as noisy as a bowl of Rice Krispies ... yay for cartilidge damage!)
After that swell little stunt, I took myself out to dinner last night (Applebee's), and when I walked through the door & looked up at the TVs, I found myself looking right at Tyler Stewart of Barenaked Ladies on ESPN. :) Since the closed captioning was turned off, I had no idea what he was talking about (probably Hockey, since it was the All-Stars Hockey Game) - just that he looked damn good, bald head & glasses, and that devilish grin. {Yeah, that got me started, but you know if Steven Page showed up on the screen, I would've spontaneously combusted.}
After dinner - and watching the Eastern Division kick the Western Division's asses by the score of 13 - 6, I went home and watched Saturday Night Live. It was alright - could really do with out the "Zinger" sketch - and since Clay Aiken doesn't necessarily float my boat, I could care less about the musical guest. Ah well. I think I was in some pain from the fall, and getting sick didn't help the mood much, either.
Today, I stayed at home, did some laundry and tried to recuperate from feeling crummy. Finally got to see the film Man In The Moon, and watched the first half of Woody Allen's Purple Rose of Cairo before going down for a nap.
Tomorrow, I get to go to work and give my notice of resignation. It feels weird to do it, but I know that it's necessary. Also, before I give notice, I'll be thanking them for considering me for what a friend called the "lateral move" - the Processing Service Center position. Telling mom that I wasn't taking the job, well, she wasn't the happiest about it, because she thought it would be a promotion.
To be honest, it's like a glorified front desk position, with some insurance work thrown in for good measure. They'd considered me for it because I had all those years at the front desk, as well as my time doing customer service. And the claims advocacy that mom was getting hopped up over - that would be maybe an hour or so per day.
For the record, this is how the job is described ... get on your hip waders, my lovelies, it's gonna get deep:
Objective: Key member of a dynamic core team responsible for receiving all incoming client contact.... Members must make a very positive impression, be strong in follow-through while seeking maximum efficiences for routine servicing and processing ... and the elimination of redundancies. Certain personal and commercial clients as determined by management will be the direct responsibility of the unit. VIP and COI (Center of Influence), group and life clients are to be greeted and served.
Business Development: * Receives incoming calls on a rotating basis.
* Determines need of caller in order to handle/process the matter directly or connect the caller with the appropriate associate. In other words, I can handle the minutiae, but I won't be dealing with clients for the big-deal things, such as re-marketing.
* Recieves the incoming mail on a rotating basis.
* Determines the highest and most efficient manner in which to serve and process.
Product Design: * The final product is a seamless meld of individual talent with the highest and best use of existing and emerging technology in order to serve the client.
* Client satisfaction is primary.
* All routine transactions are to be processed in this unit.
* The objective is to touch routine matters only once.
* Individuals within the unit may be trained and accountable in speciatly areas, i.e., claims advocacy, etc.
* Virtual integration of all matters pertaining to processing, including data entry, uploads & downloads, transactional filing, scanning, faxing, dictation and proposal preparation.
The bolded items are things I did at the front desk.
My biggest gripe about this? The HMM's kids have been temping for us - and they were supposed to be learning how to do the processing work. However, since I'm pretty much the department, I haven't had time to show them how to do it - besides, they're only in town for short times, and I'd have to re-teach them every time.
So, when I give my "thanks, but no thanks" for the lateral move offer, as well as my resignation, they're stuck. They're the ones that dithered since October on hiring another CSR in the department (and no, there hasn't been anyone hired yet). They're the ones that hired in someone for the Life and Health Department (didn't know that they needed someone else...), and seem to have neglected my department. So, they'll be the ones up the creek without a paddle - and it's their damn problem, not mine.
