hiddenmuseComing home from the dentist (for a cleaning - and to hear that I need a bite guard for my TMJ ... more on that soon), I turn on the TV and flip right to PBS, where Nova has a special on Physics - Parallel Universes, Sparticles, String Theory, the Big Bang Theory ... I was enthralled until it was over.
Sure, I didn't understand some of it, but what I did get, I loved. :) So, come here and discover the Elegant Universe - String Theories, Parallel Universes and all!
Now, for the TMJ/ mouthguard crap. Here's the back-story: about 3 years ago, I developed TMJ Disorder & at the time, it was treatable by taking oral steroids. Occasionally, I'd have flare-ups, but they were easily remedied with Advil and warm compresses.
The past few weeks, though, I've had those "Mother of All Headaches" headaches, as well as jaw pain. Turns out that it's from my clenching and grinding my teeth, almost to the point that a few back teeth are starting to shift out of alignment.
So, now I'm getting a really fucking expensive mouthguard. Of course, neither the medical nor dental insurance covers treatment for TMJ Disorder (except for the visits to an oral surgeon), so I'll be footing the bill on this one - about $400. I go in on Thursday morning to get impressions made, and it'll be done in 2 weeks. No word yet on how often I'll be wearing it, I think that'll be decided when I get it. My guess is, at the very least, I'll wear it at bedtime.
In the meantime, I'm catching myself in the act of clenching my teeth ... it's strange how often I do it & don't realize it. I wonder, should I log that on the time chart at work? ;) "10:42 a.m. - caught myself clenching my teeth again. Made myself stop, will have to think happy thoughts... 10:46 a.m. - put in my favorite Barenaked Ladies CD (Maybe You Should Drive), jaw is starting to relax... 10:54 a.m. - So-and-so came in, tensing up AGAIN. FUCK!!!!"
