I swear to G*d - in almost 6 years, we've gone from decent to Dilbert. Here's the latest round of genius thinking:

Vicki's last day was Friday - she quit to take a job with an agency closer to home, and apparently the High Muckety-Muck (or HMM - agency president) doesn't seem to be very keen on the idea of hiring someone else in to fill the position. Yet, at the same time, he was (and may still be) looking to get another producer to join the agency - thereby bringing in more business.

Yeah - take a minute to wrap your mind around THAT ONE. Three people in one department - already overwhelmed with the departure of the fourth. Add in a new producer and his clientele. What do you get? An entire department quitting, most likely.

Apparently the office manager is going to try and talk the HMM down from that bass-ackwards thinking of his, and my supervisor is going to conveniently remind him of everything that CAN'T be accomplished with an incomplete department. Basically, they can risk kissing new business, re-underwriting existing business, and marketing to new and existing clients good-bye, because they'd have a department that would only be capable of tending to the care and feeding of existing clientele. But, those clients would get pissy because the overworked CSRs aren't friggin' spoon-feeding them at every turn, the way it seemed to have been done years ago, when the agency first came into being. (Oh wait - those people already do that. How quickly I forgot.)

What's really bad is that I think one person in another department is looking for another job - so they'd risk being fucked over, too. Also, the biggest fallout if they don't hire someone else in? I know of two people in my department that would be more than willing to give their walking papers at the drop of a hat. One to be close to home, another because the stress has become so great. As for me, I look at it this way - the day Sherry leaves, I'd turn in my resignation and call Vicki to see about getting another job while looking for work outside of the state.

So, there it is. My work rant.
