Okay, there are quite a few new people around here ... and I should do an intro post, and soon!

In the meantime, welcome to my madness - and please don't mind my rambling about my allergist's appointment!

Lucky me, I have a life-long allergy to grasses, as well as a pet dander allergy that came up when I was in college (never mind that I grew up with animals)! A few years ago, I found out that I had asthma, too. :-/

Anyways, it was inevitable that I would need allergy shots at some point. That point, is apparently now. I had to read and sign the consent forms that basically say, "Yes, I know that there is a 0.00000000001% chance that this can kill me - but I'm fucking stubborn and/or masochistic and/or have a death wish, so sign me up!" Okay, so it really says "these are the risks and the benefits, this is how much of a commitment this will involve ... and oh yes, you'll be carrying an EpiPen with you in case you go into anaphylactic shock after leaving our office." (I think my version sounds cooler and more honest ... but, that's just me)

So now, the Good Doctor^TM gets to mix up some allergens, and I get to come in once a week to get three shots for the next several months. Woohoo.

In good news, I got my hair cut again (well, it was more of a trim-up), and I've got an appointment to get colored next weekend. I'll get pictures of the new cut posted soon - tonight was not a good night for it! :-D

BOO! for shots, even if they do help. I hate needles.

Glad everything went well at the allergist...even if you do have to get shots, it is for the best.

I have asthma aswell, but I rarely have to use an inhaler. And it sucks that you are allergic to pet dander, I don't think I could live without a furry creature around.
*shudders at the thought of shots and needles*

Two days ago I got a haircut (again) myself, and I'm going to be dying it (again) either today or tomorrow. =^-^=

Yep, grasses as in the lawn. I can't even walk through a lawn with any exposed parts, because I'll get hives.

I hate needles, too - but, for some reason, that didn't stop me from getting 3 piercings this year alone!

That's true. I knew it would happen - and it was supposed to be kind of a last-resort option. But, I've gotten to where my Zyrtec and a nasal allergy spray are still helping ... but not as much as they could. Also, it would be nice if I can get to where I have two less medications to take! :-)

My asthma is pretty well-controlled - my inhaler only comes out once in a while. And despite my pet dander allergies, I still live with two cats! Of course, they seem to know that I'm allergic to them, so they make it a point to be especially lovey-dovey towards me. Silly cats!

i used to carry an epipen for the bee stings problem, but it expired years ago and i never replaced it.

if the anaphylactic shock kicks in, i am teh screwed.

That sounds like Kellie - she's allergic to bee stings, too. Since she's never had to use the Epi Pen, it usually expires!

I've been getting my shots for al ittle over a year now. I took the uber-masochistic route and got my preliminary shots twice a week for the first 3 or 4 months, indtead of once a week. Apparently you can get the first round every 72 hours. I didn't get the groovy epi-pen, though. They give outlittle envelopes of prednizone and chlortrimeton at my allergist. I don't think they really have to worry about anyone abusing the prednizone, though.
I'm finally up to every three weeks on the shots, and I have to say I am noticing a difference. Of course, we wont really know if they're actually working until I get tested again at the end of the three years. I do love the tiny little statistical tid bit they often neglect to tell you: while you may become resistant to these allergens, you may develop allergies to things you had not previously reacted to.

Yes, it's a pain in the ass arms, yes, the injection sights will itch and sometimes swell, but the potential of eventually not having such severe reactions to things is worth the aggrivation. This coming from a person who is allergic all but seven of the trees, grasses, weeds, pollens, molds, and danders she was tested for.

There is a light at the end of this most annoying tunnel.
