Here's Your Suckerpunch

In 31 years of life, I've successfully managed to avoid being punched in the face by anyone (human or otherwise).

Today, that record was obliterated. By, of all people and/or things, a puppy that was certainly excited to go out for a walk!

Yes, I got socked in the nose by Kooba, a year-old Terrier mix, who head-butted me when I knelt down to put the leash on him, in preparation for a walk.

I'm fine - no bloody nose, glasses are unscathed - just a bruise on the side of my nose ... and an interesting story of how it got there in the first place!

Hey, where do you volunteer? I've considered volunteering off and on, but never looked too far into it.

I volunteer at Pets Unlimited (http://www.petsunlimited.org), a no-kill animal shelter in San Francisco that takes in cats and dogs from Animal Care & Control (sometimes as far as Sacramento and Santa Clara) and other agencies - that would've otherwise been put down because they were deemed unadoptable due to illness or just being at the agency "too long".

My partner had gotten into it first, and I started going with her to walk the dogs on occasion, then I ended up becoming a volunteer - and dog walker - on my own. It's wonderful exercise for the dogs and humans alike, and I really enjoy being able to spend time with the animals, helping them to become better socialized and acclimated towards humans.

If you decide to volunteer, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am! Some days, it is challenging - but it is worth it! :-)

Is your big meanie in the form of a landlord/landlady and/or the other Resident Cats, too?

Kellie and I keep jokingly threatening to trade in our cats for one of the dogs - or even one of the kittens - but realistically, we wouldn't do it.

At least with mine, she and I can joke about trading in our Resident Cats for a new one ... or a dog!
