Easily Amused
Aug. 26th, 2002 07:07 pmIt's been awhile since I'd visited fanfiction.net, so I thought I'd see if there was anything interesting or even remotely worthwhile. *wiggles hand* I've read better, and I've read worse.
So much of it just doesn't appeal to me, though. I guess I prefer more "general" fiction and smut - although I've nothing against the genre of fanfic. If it gets people writing, being creative - that's a very good thing. Even if it's re-writing chapters of Harry Potter novels or spelling out your sexual fantasies in so many words.
I know, a lot of people don't like it ... it makes them uncomfortable. That's your prerogative. Fanfic about boy bands gives me an ooky feeling. Especially since the authors are usually still teenagers, with this near-overwrought fantasy that Nick Carter or Justin Timberlake would actually do more than give them the time of day.
Not like I have that much room to talk. At one time, many moons ago, I was writing stories like theirs. Nothing wrong with exercising your erotic learner's permit via celebrity crushes. I just don't want to go back to those days anytime soon.
