I am totally dangerous in Target. Last night, I went in with my neat little list and still came away having spent about $150. But, I've got the needful things (pantyhose, dishwashing soap, Downy - with wrinkle release, hair color, batteries and deodorant) and some wantful things (magazines, make-up, a Dennis Miller DVD - fucking hilarious, and a t-shirt for Halloween that says "Bite Me").

Now, if I could come up with some way to shut up my neurotic little mind, it would be fabulous. I know what's bringing it on (PMS), I just wish that I had an actual remedy for what's ailing me in that respect. Anything has to be better than achy girl parts and mood swings that have me crying in bed at night.

In the meantime, I'll just go for a temporary remedy. I'm taking myself out for dinner and a movie. :) If I'm not mistaken, I think that Cicero's (Italian restaurant/bar) has some kind of dinner special on Tuesday nights - so I'll get something there, then go to the Tivoli and catch Party Monster during its one-week-only run.

And because I'm not all bad news today, I do have some good news (for once): my stepdad is home from the hospital!! He's been home since Friday afternoon, and while he did seem a bit touch-and-go over the weekend, he's gradually improving. It's all about those baby steps - as Anna reminded me, those are the first steps we take. I'm just very very grateful that he's home, and has been home for longer than 48 hours this time. :-D

Thank you all for the prayers, well wishes and thoughts - it certainly means a lot, and has definitely helped keep my family going through these rough times. I just hope that I can be able to return the favor to you all when you may need it.

Yes, I actually went through with taking myself out for dinner and a movie - and had a wonderful time.

I had dinner at Cicero's, where they had an "All-you-can-eat Spaghetti for $3.95" special. Considering the serving size, one helping was sufficient - we're talking a big plate/bowl of spaghetti with a delicious Marinara sauce, full of chunky tomatoes. Yummy.

After dinner, I went to the used bookstore and almost wanted to forego the movie in favor of browsing the aisles for a couple of hours! I wasn't too bad, spending about $18 and leaving with three books - Joseph Heller's Catch 22; a paperback copy of Michael Moore's Stupid White Men for $6; and Anaïs Nin's Henry & June. Of course there was so much more that I'd wanted ... but there is always another time.

I did make it to the movies & saw Party Monster. I loved the movie - it was a bit dark (well, considering that it dealt with a murder, yeah...) and the homoeroticism was merely implied - so if you're wanting to see Macaulay Culkin kiss Wilmer Valderrama or Seth Green, use your imagination, my lovelies. One of the big surprises (to me) was Marilyn Manson as a tranny club kid named Christina - I thought it was a woman until I saw the credits.

I admit that my main reason for wanting to see the film was not because of the possibility of seeing Mac Culkin kiss another man, but because I remember hearing about Michael Alig killing his drug dealer, Angel, in the early '90s. Yes, I have lived my entire life in St. Louis - but managed to live vicariously through the media as a teen. I remember seeing the club kids and thinking they were freakish and cool as hell at the same time. All I knew of Michael Alig was that he was a club kid that had apparently killed his drug dealer. I'd heard of all the clubs - Limelight, The Palladium, Danceteria, etc. Of course, I could never be part of that scene - it was just something that I found to be incredibly fascinating, because I'm just a huge geek in that way.

Now, part of me wants to read James St. James' book Disco Bloodbath (probably re-named Party Monster by now), while another part of me almost doesn't want to, afraid that the film may have tainted my perception of the book.

And that's what I did tonight. Now, I'm going to get to bed and try to go to sleep. Tomorrow is another day - one day closer to the weekend. Have a good night my lovelies, and a great tomorrow!
