It's time for more of my Guitar ~~Zero~~ Hero ramblings!

I played GH2 for a little while the other day, and managed to get my score above 40,000 on Cheap Trick's "Surrender" and close to 30,000 (maybe higher) on Kiss' "Strutter". I'm quite proud of myself for that one. Maybe some day, I'll actually get past 3 stars!

Also, Kellie and I had noticed on GH3 that when you successfully complete a song, you get the whole "Congratulations - you've earned X Amount!", followed up with: "Go buy yourself something pretty." Kellie and I thought it was just something that occurred because we were playing female characters and commented that it was probably a female character-only thing. So, unless it happened with a badass mofo like Lars Umlaut (a guitar-playing Lucha Libre), it was quite sexist.

Well, the other day, I played as Lars, and got the "Go buy yourself something pretty" message. O_o I don't know ... maybe it's because I was still playing under my GH name, Carlita.

I'll set up a male name and character, to see if that damn message still comes up. Better yet, any guys that are playing GH, have you seen that message? Or do you get something more "masculine" like, "go buy some coke and whores"?

Seriously. I know that a good majority of the gamers are guys - but the ladies are getting into the games as well. Not all of us are spending hours on end playing World of Warcraft or Halo 3, but we *are* playing Guitar Hero, Rock Band and many other games. So we're out there dammit - give us a shred of respect already!

The message is always 'go buy yourself something pretty.' It's not just refering to clothes, but to the guitars as well. (and the songs and other characters)
Really, it's just a saying with no deeper meaning behind it other than 'You've got cash! Use this to updgrade!'

At least it's good to know that it happens regardless of the character!

I read a cool article in the Village Voice recently about how some bars are having Guitar Hero competitions. The guy who wrote the article noted his surprise that there were alot of women there, not just hanging out, but also playing, leading him to suggest that such bars would be a good place to pick up chicks, as long as you don't mind getting your ass kicked by them because the women were schooling many of the guys and the night's ultimate winner was a woman.

I've seen articles about things like that, and it's probably a great way to meet women - as long as the guys can past having their asses kicked!

Any time we have played, we put in a band name, not a person's name...so there is no gender at all..and the same thing appears. I think it is just what they are saying, not sexist.

okay! :-) Good to know that it's applicable to everyone - I don't feel so bad, and actually, I find it quite funny that Lars Umlaut is being told to buy something pretty!

as commented above, it's always "go buy yourself something pretty". I actually found that amusingly un-sexist, the first time I saw it (I was playing as Jonny Napalm, and our band name isn't gendered).

OTOH, some guitars (specifically the Ladyshapes His Girl Friday bass and the fishnet leg guitar) are objectifying as hell. it makes me exceedingly happy to suit up Casey Lynch in her bustier and thigh boots and have her playing either the Ladyshapes or the leg guitar -- also, okay, it's fucking hot. XD

Okay - you've got me looking forward to getting Casey all suited up and playing the most objectifying, obnoxious guitar! (I like playing her because she is like a combination of Sean Ysault from White Zombie and Corey Parks from Nashville Pussy!)

Kind of unrelated, but I like to play as Pandora on GH and GH2, with that Gibson SG - I kind of like its "Infinity On High"-esque neck.

I am still slogging away in the Easy level! Hence, the referring to myself as a "Guitar Zero" ... in time, I'll get better and out of the Easy level Purgatory!
