Question Time!

It's mid-summer, which is Tourist Season in many cities.

The question I have is this: How do you know that it's Tourist Season in your Fair City?

One of the biggest signs for me is the glut of people in shorts ... and San Francisco fleece hoodies or jackets. Those well-intended, woefully mistaken people assume that all of California is like Los Angeles in terms of the climate. Ummm, nope. Our Fair City is cooler - and don't even go to the beach without a full-body wetsuit! And for the record, while The Castro is a gay haven ... the half-naked go-go boys only dance in the shop windows on Pride Weekend. *eg*

I know it's tourist season when gluts of people insist on standing in the middle of the sidewalk or train entrances, blocking all traffic, looking around cluelessly while saying something stupid like, "That's DePaul. The REAL DePaul. You know the one we see on tv? That's it. Right there."

Oh yeah - I forgot about the people stopping in the middle of the sidewalk to take pictures, and wandering aimlessly, looking completely lost.

Sometimes, I really want to fuck with their heads - but that might be severely bad Karma, so I don't. Although, it is quite tempting...

I do fuck with them, which might explain why I'm going through a string of bad luck lately. On the side of DePaul University is a painting of a man I'm assuming to be St. Vincent DePaul. I don't know because I'm not religious and don't go anywhere near the school except when I'm passing it on the train. Anyway, I think this guy looks like Burgess Meredith in the first "Rocky" movie, so I told those tourists that's who is painted on the side of the building. I told them that he gave the school a huge amount of money to build the soccer field his visage overlooks. Suddenly, they are busting out their cameras and furiously taking pictures of the old guy on the side of the building. I wish I could be a fly on the wall as they tell their friends and relatives how Burgess Meredith was a huge supporter of the university. Damn, i'm cruel.
