Taking him for a bath - the new "Taking him to live on a farm"

I wish I were kidding...

This afternoon, we took Teak (our black cat) to the vet for a check-up and bath. It seemed like things were going well, the vet came in and told us that Teak was doing well with his bath, that they would dry him off and meet us out front with a clean cat in his carrier. Instead, we got called back into the exam room and told that while Teak was being dried off, his heart stopped. Despite the efforts of CPR from two vets and two vet techs; intubation and injections of epinephrine, he did not survive.

He was brought into the exam room for us to see him, and it just felt so strange. Looking at him, we both swore that we'd seen him move. We said our last good-byes to him, told him that we loved him and then he was taken back to be prepared for cremation.

We still have Cleo - and Lord only knows how he'll react when he realizes that Teak is gone. Really gone.

And if you don't get the reference, it comes from this: We Gave Rex To A Nice Farm Family

Aw jeeze, I'm so sorry. I hate the sudden ones like that. My last cat died early and unexpectedly and it was the worst. I've had a few pets die over the years, but they were always old. I'm so sorry. :(

Oh honey! I'm so sorry to hear that, Major hugs and good vibes going your way.

I am so so very sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose a member of the family, especially so suddenly and unexpectedly.

How did this happen? Was Teak old? Was the bath too cold? Did something else go wrong. So, so sad.

Thank you - *hugs back*

Teak was 12 years old (possibly older), and he'd been kind of lethargic for the past couple of weeks. Kellie worried that if we'd brought him in sooner, this wouldn't have happened - and the Vet told us that regardless of what happened, Teak would've died, and honestly it was best this way. Far better than having to come home to a dead cat.

Eventually, we'd like to get a dog - we're considering a french bulldog, a rescue doggie!

Thank you - he was a good kitty

Thank you - it really was a shocker for us!

I think a lot of it came from him being ill, and another part may have been his age (he was 12 years old).

Thank you. Yeah, even with an old(er) cat - Teak was 12 - it's still hard!

Well, it sounds like he had a long and happy life and I am glad he is at peace...and that you seem to be at peace with it too.

Ah, french bulldog's are so cute!!
