Guess the food in Heaven was getting crappy

Rest In Peace, Julia

Yes, Julia Child has died at the age of 91.

As a kid, I have memories of watching her cooking show on PBS - in between episodes of Sesame Street, ZOOM, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and whatever else was on PBS. She was a big, imposing woman, but she always made cooking seem fun and interesting.

So I always have happy memories of watching Julia Child on PBS, listening to her discussing the recipes, watching her prepare the food ... now G*d wanted to have some really good French cuisine, without the pretensions! (And who could blame Her, anyways?)

Thank you Julia, for the many years of happy memories. Bon Appétit, Madame Julia - and Au Revoir!

(no subject)

minor geek-out moment ...

a co-worker's LaunchCast radio is playing Echo & The Bunnymen. "Lips Like Sugar".

I. LOVE. THAT. SONG.

I'm totally going back to high school as I listen to it (well, that and Martika's "Toy Soldiers" ... *cringes*) - as well as the New Order that played earlier today ... swoon.

I'm a happy girl. That, and I went on a small-time book binge at lunch today, picking up mental_floss Presents: Condensed Knowledge - edited by Will Pearson, Mangesh Hattikudur and Elizabeth Hunt; Killed - Great Journalism Too Hot to Print - edited by David Wallis; and Passing for Thin by Frances Kuffell.

So yay for new books, and '80s music geekdom!
